I had the same issue as topicstarter and just resolved it using your link. I found my carrier in the list and specified the APN details in TCP/IP settings. After that Sametime Mobile started to work on my BB 8520. I use direct connection and port 80 (tunneling is used on the server). The same settings I use on my Nokia E75.
